José Luis Mena Álvarez
José Luis graduated from the Universidad Nacional Agraria La Molina with a degree in Biology and from the Universidad Nacional Autónoma in México with a Masters in Biological Sciences. He is a founding member of A Rocha Peru. With more than 10 years of experience coordinating, planning and monitoring conservation projects, José Luis is a specialist in biodiversity conservation. Apart from his scientific training, he has experience working with social actors, government officials and private stakeholders in both protected and un-protected areas. He is also well published in international and national scientific journals and has authored various book chapters. He is currently working for WWF as Deputy Director of the “Corredor de Conservación Purús-Manu” Project. For José Luis, A Rocha Peru demonstrates the Biblical principles of caring for and conserving the environment which are fundamental for daily life. In this sense, he has a deep interest in supporting and strengthening A Rocha Peru as an institution and helping it fulfill its role of service in Peruvian society.
