La Esperanza Youth Club

The La Esperanza Youth Club Project began in January 2015. It seeks to promote social and environmental values based on Christian principles. This project is a new initiative within the work of A Rocha Peru and it was born as a response to the desperate need we identified in this community.

Children praying

After each workshop and club activity, the children participate in moments of prayer and reflection. During this time, a bible verse is shared followed by a prayer for the needs of the group and of each group member.

La Esperanza Youth Club

This project is located in the district of La Esperanza, Trujillo, northern Peru. One of the poorest and most densely populated neighbourhoods in La Esperanza is Nueva Jerusalén (New Jerusalem). Here, poverty, delinquency, domestic violence and child abuse exist at alarming rates. The youth club provides local youth (aged 8 – 22) the opportunity to develop Christian values, receive skills and leadership training, and participate in creative activities and practical environmental work in La Esperanza

The project’s long-term goal is the creation of a “Peace Centre” in La Esperanza that will act as a catalyst for change in the community. Besides affecting social change, the club seeks to develop micro-enterprises  with an environmental theme, that can potentially result in the sale of goods at local markets, and generate sustainable income for the benefit of young community members.

PLEASE HELP US by enabling club members to generate income from rearing guinea pigs! Through ‘Gifts With a Difference’ at shop.arocha.org you can enable a child to look after a guinea pig for 6 months.

'Marinera' workshop

The social and cultural development component includes artistic dance workshops. Currently, 22 kids and teenagers participate in these workshops.

Breakdance workshop

The youth organization Soul Fighter Crew is a group of teens who practice breakdance in La Esperanza. This group teaches workshops for the children of our Youth Club twice a week.
